Wow, that IS dry. Is 2.75" your normal annual rate?

I measure annual rainfall every year, and last year OURS was the lowest I ever
measured: 35 inches. Normal is 60-65". So far this this year: 34in, with 4+
months left in the rainy season. And I am only 300 miles from you...

Isn't complaining about lack of rain in the desert like complaining it's too wet in a rain forest? You knew I was a snake. . . . :confused3:

I never said I didn't like it, it's one of the reasons I live here. No snow to plow, no muddy ground to deal with, virtually no insects and the adapted desert plants remain green. Yes I have to irrigate my garden, but it's amazing how well things grow in our extended season. Typically there are 2 types of people who live here. Those that absolutely love it and those who hate it. Not much middle ground. Just look at the beauty from my back yard.

I went back and looked at my original post and realized that I clicked the  emoticon while I intended to click the ;) next to it. Sorry if that made my post confusing.

Normal annual precipitation is just over 3".

Looks great , spent 2 years in high desert at Edward AFB CA. Got stationed there in 1990 thru 92 during a few earthquakes riots Rodney king BS and the like.

One thing was amazing was how fast it greened up after a sprinkle. I got there late fall & all the critters were moving around looking for winter bedding spots. I was lucky got farthest out and ground floor barracks. The room was great but had a .5" gap under it so had some bug issues. When I moved in I found half dozen Black widows in the room. It had not been cleaned very well in a while at the time (3 or 4 months it was empty.) I got bed in set up and it was night so fired up BBQ with some briquettes and made a steak and got done eating. Set the lid on top of the pretty much all out coals and hit the sac. Got up next AM and since I left it outside I wanted to get it back in prior to someone saying something. I picked up the lid and a scorpion fell out onto my bare foot which I jumped a bit and kicked it off not too startled by that. walked around corner with it and set it into the car trunk. Took in some stuff out of the trunk and set it on bed to put into built in drawers. the bottom set had some left over sweaters from old room owner and I reached in to pull them out and a Gecko jumped onto the back of my hand needless to say I screamed and yanked my hand back flinging that poor critter accost the room!

Fun times for sure. I ended up keeping one of the Black Widows as a pet in a 1 gallon wine jug. the Gecko scurried off and I never found it. Out there setting 3 feet from my room door I could see/hear Coyote, Road Runners, Ravens Lots of Skinks/Lizards so many Black Widows you HAD to inspect boots in the AM prior to sticking one on. Few Rattlers that I played around with too. I jogged in the sand paths thru the scrub bush along the Joshuah trees so got to see a lot of stuff most people never see.
