I'm about to push (hopefully not too far) my John Deere X300. You can see in the picture the tall uncut grass. It's about knee to thigh high and I'm going to tackle it this weekend. Should at least be good and dry. Just a few spots where it's pretty thick otherwise think I'll be ok. Had my property line off and it didn't get cut when I had it done. Not enough to have the guy come back out to do so I'll give it a whirl with the little JD.

sharpen the blades, raise the deck up high and run her wide floaten open!

all you can do is try....

sharp blades will really make a difference!

When I bought my 2 acres it was in foreclosure and had not been cut in about a year. The grass was 2' tall. I have a MTD 12.5hp X 38" cut from my city house. I went very slow and made a cut through an area, then came back doing half cuts with the chute held open for the rest of the area.
I've named the MTD my "Baby Bushhog"!!
Most lawnmowers reccomend running full throttle when cutting. The engine developes more HP and cools better.

If you have the mulching setup I would take it off and also take the gaurd off. I know it is not safe but it keeps the grass from mulching and spreads it out a little better which is easier on the mower. Raise the mower all the way up and take your time. Doesn't look like you want it to look like a lawn anyway.

Hadn't thought of taking the guard off, good idea. No, this is a future homesite, just have to keep everything knocked down.

Walk every inch of it to make sure there's nothing in there to tear up the mower.

If a 12 hp Craftsman has cut grass like your picture shows, then
a JOHN DEERE certainly will have no problem. Deck is 42" on ten year
old tractor. elad

Make sure you blow the uncut cras AWAY from the strip you will be cutting in the next pass. In other words don't blow the cut grass onto the uncut grass.
