How fast does the PTO engage on a 2310

Hi guys,

Just wondering how fast is the mid or rear PTO suposed to kick in ?? Once I select the mid mount for example then push down the clutch lever the actual enguage seems very agressive - I would have thought it would be a smooth slow startup. Mine does not 'clunk' into operation in a microsecond BUT it is very fast. I alway have the engine rpm at idle and it very nearly stalls most times I engage the mmm. IS THIS NORMAL? I just get the feeling that it is straining the heck out of the unis, etc.

I have also noticed that on an old spreader I have that the old square shaft is just a bit twisted from the rear PTO kicking in so fast. On bigger tractors I have used in the past you can manually control the startup and make things nice and smooth.

If I had manual control of the clutch I would not put it in this fast.

Any feelings on this?

Don't know about midmount PTO but my rear PTO starts up as soon as I move lever to ON. With the tiller mounted this does not seem to be a problem. I start with the engine at idle and increase the RPM after PTO engages.

I don't know if the 2310 is like the larger 1200 and 1400 series, but they have what I call feather start. It amounts to two different pressure stages, which engages the clutch gently. You might look in to the possibility that the engagement pressures are set wrong.

Hi Steve,

On my GC2300 and the front mounted snowblower which is driven by the MMM pto, it does not seem to be a problem - depends how gently I engage the lever as well. Have not tried the mmm yet since this was a Dec purchase and not too much green stuff to try it out on yet. Have not heard this to be a problem with other owners in the area that have have their units for a while.
