my father has a 8ft curtis plow that he bought for his tractor 10 or more years ago and has used one. I was thinking of taking a plasma cutter and cutting it to 5ft to put the my 200cx FEL JD2320.... According to the curtis site their 8 ft plow weights 585lbs! Their 5ft plow weights 470lbs....

What are your thoughts of cutting this plow down to 5 ft and using it on my 2320 with 200cx loader???? is this going to be to heavy?

what does your plow setup weigh on your small tractor? Last time at was at the JD dealer they were installing a 5 ft curtis on a 2320.

thanks

I'd would use it as an 8' plow. Once you cut it down, the effective width when angled out is too small to do any decent roadway.

If it's too heavy (I doubt that it is), figure out a way to lighten it up.

I wouldn't cut it down either. If you angle it as far as possible, I'd guess you'll take a 6 foot swath through the snow. Just get out there before the snow is too deep for your first passes.
As far as the weight...do you really have any reason to lift it more then a few feet? The 585# may tax the loader at maximum lift...but you'd have no reason to lift it that high.
You will want ballast on the back of the tractor though.
Should it turn out to be too much for your 2320, you can cut it down before next snow season.

When I built mine, it was 5', and would cause loss off steering if I pushed to much snow, especially if was wet.

Roy, ZZ-8' is way to much for this machine hanging off the FEL

Weightwise, it'll handle it..and, if you misunderstood
"As far as the weight...do you really have any reason to lift it more then a few feet?"
that meant he'd be OK as long as he didn't lift it too high.

As far as the width, he might be OK as long as he got out early enough (4"-5").

Now, is 8' optimal? No, probably too big...but I'd try it before I cut it down. Who knows...it might work fine. Just a matter of using some common sense when plowing (or any other task, for that matter).
