How helpful is it to have a tractor that takes 3pt cat 1 or 2?

Lots of people think that a bigger tractor uses more fuel. Normally this is only if like xring100 says "unless you are into the power". My 75 hp tractor typically uses less fuel than my 32 hp machine. The real killer is that our D6 only uses 2GPH under full power with a heavy load. ;)

BGigHarbor, $1500 is a cheap amount of $$$$ to be happy for many years and not be second guessing yourself or having the "what ifs" or the "only ifs".

Again, just my :2cents:

I hear you, but the problem is where to draw the line.

One complication is that the local dealer orders the 5460 and 6060 with ag tires but for my use I want the r4 tires like he ordered on the coming l4760 (no cab). He didn't seem keen on trading tires so it would mean ordering which he says would take a while.

Find another dealer who will get what YOU want.....

I ended up jumping up to a 5240 from a 3940 when I was shopping. Did it for the some of the same reasons you are mentioning, loader, cat 1/2, turbo engine, more hp. After about 18 months and 200 hours I have not regretted it once, but there have been numerous times I was glad I didn't get a smaller machine. Find a dealer that will work with you and get exactly what you want, might check with Barlows, many here have said they were surprised at the deal they received.

I stopped by a dealer this morning because I remembered I had seen an l5460 there before.

They have not sold an L60 series tractor yet and seemed pretty motivate -- quoted me what I consider a pretty good price on the L5460.

Still pondering because there is a dealer closer to the property whom I had hoped to do business with, but I don't think that dealer has one and it seems to take them at least a couple months to get new orders in.

I will probably decided something this week....not crazy about the front hydraulic routings on the l60s but with a lower skid plate it might work out okay. No bigger l40s to be had for a very long ways.
