Looking
I am waiting for my Kioti CK25HST to arrive and was looking at different implements when I came across a scoop. Can someone tell me how it is used and what it is used for?

I wanted to get a back hoe but just couldn't afford it. I have some trenching and thought that the scoop would at least give me a start on things. But just not sure how it really works.

Can someone explain to this newbie?

thanks

Congrat's on ordering a CK25HST. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Here a thread that will answer some of you questions. It leads to other threads.

Depending on the Scoop width you will end up with a trench that is 24-36" wide. Depth may not be deep enough to bury more than 12".
Some TBN member have used a Sub Soiler. Here is a link to a thread on how to use them.

Craig, A 3 point hitch scoop works very well. I bought a 30" scoop recently and moved 8 yds of loam and cut some sod with it. It will work very well digging a trench. Tractor weight and 4x4 helps. And of course it depends on the soil and other materiel in the ground. The scoop of cource attaches to your 3 point hitch and can be used to lift stright up or dig by adjusting the top link. With the top link extended the back end of the scoop is pointed down toward the ground. As you reverse the tractor with the 3 point hitch down the scoop is forced into the ground. As the scoop fills with dirt begin lifting it using the 3ph. Buy one that can be reversed so you can pull it as well as push. My brother was visiting from KY last week and said "he used one as a farm kid to dig out their small ponds." There is one at the Coles Land Transportation Museum in Bangor, called a "clam shell." They were converted from horse to tractor use. Simple and effective. "Poor mans fel/back hoe" The cost will be around $300 unless you find a used one. I have a very small tractor and the scoop works for me.
