How long can you typically get parts for John Deere equipment?

I have a 4600 now, made in 2000, so it's 16-17 years old. This tractor was only made for 4 years or so, so when do I need to start becoming concerned about parts availability? Are the 460 loaders, belly mount mowers, etc, still available? I assume for those implements, they aren't making any more, haven't for quite some time, so whatever might be left in the warehouse some where, is it.

JD has a history of providing repair parts for many yrs BUT one thing that might affect how long JD supplies parts for your tractor is the fact that some of the components such as the Yanmar engine are out sourced. Plus the parts for older tractors & equipment are getting very high $$$$$$. Hydro trans for your model tractor from JD is part number LVA11405 TRANSMISSION, HST SERVO CONTROLLED, ADD 4,573.61 USD

It really depends on the part you want, and luck.

In 1974 ~ a JD co-worker of mine was given orders to scrap all the single and double trees there were in a seldom used part of the warehouse.

I just bought a whole bunch of undercarriage parts and blade parts for a 1970's 550 JD dozer with no issues except the price tag.

In my Deere fleet, (see profile) the newest machine is 20 years from new. Oldest 33 years from new. I haven't had any trouble getting any part needed from Deere. Aftermarket parts availability is good too.

Uhhh, forever? Parts and used parts are around for a shockingly long time. Today with 3D machines you can make anything you want to. Decals are no problem either and are easily made. Maybe you can't buy on off-the-shelf block at some point but you can't find an easy solution to almost any problem you have or part you need.

It depends on what piece of equipment you have, I bet you deere won't have CUT parts available nearly as long as it has had some of their farm tractors...

On a CUT, I'll bet you many parts won't be available after 10 or 15 years...UNLESS you happened to find that part on some dealers shelf, collecting dust...

Right...It becomes an economic balancing act between selling it when it still has economic value, but before it needs a major repair. In my case, I bought it a year old in 2000 for $16,500. Another $4k for the 460 loader. MSRP was about $29K at the time, so I did OK. It had 150 hours on it, it now has 570, so 420 hours in 16 years.

It's been a life saver around the property for me, but to replace it would cost me about $35K new for equivalent HP and loader. Trying to find used tractors around here now is time wasted. Hardly anything available, and what is, they want only a few percentage points off of new for buying from John Doe off of Craigs. With 0%/60 and 6 year Powertrain warranty now, it's not worth it.

With the amount of hours I put on it, hopefully it will last me another 30 years until I'm too old to drive it.

This is an issue a lot of us will be facing in the future if we keep our newer tractors any length of time. Our old D-17 Allis Chalmers still has very good part support for engine components due to total numbers sold. Same thing for my Ford 4610 SU. Design modifications, ever changing EPA requirements, and lower production numbers will make parts availability problematic for newer units. My Workmaster has a Fiat engine, gears sourced from Turkey, and a USA made FEL from Alo. Deere is probably better than most. Last year I purchased a lift spring for our 1950 John Deere Van Brunt grain drill. Pretty amazing when you think about it. Deere sold a lot of those units back in the day and lots of parts interchange between models.

If the part you need is NLA the dealer can search other dealer's stock for the part. I have done this in the past. I was only provided a phone # and had to call and have the part sent to me, but I was able to buy a NLA part. That fails, there is aftermarket or used.

It has been on JD L&G tractors I have run into NLA parts, not my 42 year old JD 2030 farm tractor. I assume SCUT and CUT will be the same as L&G tractors for parts availability.
