how long did your battery last? 2320

I bought a JD4100 in 1998 and the battery was still going strong when I sold it after 10 years and 1000 hours use. Bought my 2520 in 2008 and battery is still good after 400 hours. I use my machine at least once a week year around and if I don't use it for a week in the winter a put a trickle charger on the battery. I think you can get more life if you keep them charged well.

The 4200 - 4400 series use an odd size battery, which means buy a battery from Deere or fabricate new hold downs and use something else.

My first battery leaked and chewed up the hydraulic cooler shortly after I bought the 4200 new in 2001. Everything fixed and replaced under warranty. Second battery puked last year. Those batteries had the old fashioned fill caps. Finally Deere has gone to sealed batteries. About dam time.

I was going to go with a Diehard battery meant for a Honda car that is close in size to the OEM Deere; but the CCA's were less than the Deere, I'd have to make new battery mounts, and the cost was greater than or equal to the Deere battery.

A lot of things affect battery life.

If I fail to keep a good charge on my batteries through the winter freeze, Michigan, the life goes near zero. Could they freeze on low charge? Grass cutter tractor machine batteries are not used at all in the winter. ---Fuseboxer

new battery fixed everything.... decided against a new JD battery @ $120.... for a Napa battery @ $75...

Mines been in since 06 and almost 200 hrs. So far I haven't had any problems, knock on wood, and in the winter the tractor might sit for a month at a time.
