How many hours is too much for a used tractor?

I am considering buying a Kubota B7100 with 2700 hours on it. The machine seems to have been well cared for, but that seems like a lot of hours. My question is, is this a reasonable amount for a Kubota, or is it nearing the time for a rebuild?A locale dealer has it and it is within my price range($4500--4wdr,mid mount mower).How does that price sound?

For what it's worth, my Kubota M8950 currently has about 7900 hours on it, and it still runs great.

I'm not able to give you a good answer on how good of a price that is /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif, but I am sure others will chime in with more information than I can give.

There are many sites where you can get prices for used tractors. One of those sites is MachineryLink .

If you do a search using the search function at the top of the main index page, you should be able to find other sites. I would suggest you use search phrases such as "tractor prices", "used tractors", "tractor pricing", etc.

You might want to fill in your profile so others can tell where you're from and what you might want to do with a tractor. Also, knowing the region a person lives can very useful. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If it has in fact been well taken care of. Then that is no hours at all, should be good for 2 or 3 times that much, before an overhaul. Then maybe not, its all in how you use it, and care for it.

I was going to say 10,000 hours would be too much, but if cheap enough...not really.

there are some tractors with 2700 that would be a steal and some with the same hrs. that are junk. really depends on the type of use and how well it was cared for, U are the one that can look and test it so u must determine if it is ok.seems like it can't be in bad shape or u would not even be asking about it. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As long as the service has been done regularly that tractor still has many thousands of good hours left in it. There really is no such thing as too many hours. It all depends on the condition of the tractor. They all can be overhauled. Get a compression test, run it four or five hours doing some work and see if it uses oil, look for excess blowby, how well does it start cold?, run the pto under a heavy load, etc.

All good advice. I live close to a metropolitan area so all of the testing I would like to do is not available at all dealers. I would at the very least run it for a while, drive it and insist that a heavier 3pth item be hooked up so you can see that the hydraulics and pto funtion properly. If its a gear model be sure to try all gears and ranges. I tend to shy away from those with a nice new coat of paint. You never really know whats under there unless its from a dealer you really trust and have done buisiness with in the past.
