Tires How many miles will a tire last?

I have operated and repaired farm tractors all my adult life and most of my childhood. I have NEVER heard of Continental tractor tires, but did find their website easily. I don't live anywhere the Pacific Northwest, but am firmly convinced that my part of NY is the 'high rent district'. I have no doubt I could replace 14.9x24 R-1 tires with a premium brand mounted and ready to go "here" for half your quotes. If you plan on heavy tillage and pulling a bale wagon, you should consider going to 28" or 30" rears for both footprint and load capacity. Michelin and Firestone are popular higher end tires "here".

I got a pull type bale wagon and was wondering if anybody knows how many miles you could drive on pavement with 16.9x30 radials before needing to replace them?
About 50,000 miles if you pump em up to max rated pressure for the road trip.

I have heard of Continental tires but never had any experience with them.

For what you are looking to do a radial would be the best option but I know you are trying to keep cost down and that doesn't work very well when you are talking about radials:(

I put a couple 18.4-34 Firestones on two years ago and they cost just over $700 each plus mounting. I did sell the ones I took off for $155 (loaded them on the guys truck this morning).

If you are going to try no till you are going to need better tires then you have on there for sure. If money wasn't an issue I would buy new rims and a set of Michelin XM108's.

Now to your original question, I run my TN65 with FWA on Route 20 every year. I figure I put on about 50 miles a year per tractor (except the Ford 640 as it stays at the field once it gets there). So far the TN has been with me the longest and between doing tillage, spinning tires doing a lot of loader work and running on the pavement I still have about 70% tread on ther rear Goodyears and 50% on the front Goodyears. I bought the tractor in 2000 so it has 7 years on it and I should get around 5-7 more before I really need to replace them (the fronts maybe 4-5 years).

One thing I have learned is that unless you put 1-2k hours a year on your tractor then you do not need to worry about tires very often. Spend your money on a good set and they should last you a long time. I regret not buying the Michelins for my 7710 when I replaced them two years ago. At the time it didn't seem like a big issue as my back wasn't that bad. Now I am real sorry I didn't spend the extra:(

Good luck with your tire search.

There is a seller on ebay, I think his store is Tucker's Tire Company., don't mean to advertise for them, but I have bought from them, and they have been good. I believe he sells tires, in the size you are looking for, either with rims, or without rims. You may want to look into this. Just a thought. :)
