How many years will John Deere manufacture the new 4010 series, before they redesign and come out with a different style of tractor, what usually determines when a new model is to be made???

The 4010 seems to be on its way to the museum now that the 2210 is being offered. The 4010 has nothing going for it compared to the 2210, not price, not specifications, and not looks, at least based on the available information.

It seems that the folks at JD did not look closely enough at the competition and the market when the 4010 was introduced. The same goes for the 4110 and even the 4115.

I’ve got to wonder about the long-term life of the X5xx machines as well. I can see a market for the X4xx L&G’s, but a optioned X5xx machine comes darn close to the 2210.

I used to have a Deere 320 L&G, nice machine but when I began looking to replace/upgrade, the 400 series (no X series at the time) didn’t have any appeal to me. Seems like I was just getting a larger, but not by much, 320. I became aware of the Kubota BX, and decided it was exactly what I was looking for.

I can see some people would be attracted to the X4xx tractors, especially if all they need to do is mow with a little light grounds care, but I’d have to wonder about someone who bought an optioned out X5xx machine.

I strongly suspect the folks at Deere are a bit wiser about this than "we" are, and have been playing the competition game for many a year. Be happy with your BX and let others be happy with what they buy.
I know several who are VERY happy with their 41xx's and X4xx and X5xx's. Hmmmm? I wonder why people buy Fords when I have a Chevy?

If West Virginia's question (how many years) had an answer, then we would all likely know what the stock market will do tomorrow and the next day.

Sorry if this sounds cynical in any way. Just my 2 cents.

The J.D. 4010 would be a nice tractor if they put some steel & cast iron into it but it's composed mostly of aluminium alloy, plastic an fiber glass. I think the engine an front axle is cast iron but not much else...

I've grown accustom to seeing this cheap junk on yard/garden tractors but for a over $11,000 CUT that is CRAP...

I realize that aluminium alloy an plastics have come a long way but it still has a way to go, to equal cast iron & steel for strength..

You maybe right about the Deere folks being smarter than that, but having products that fits every little niche in the market doesn’t make sense either. I just feel that the point of diminishing returns for the X5xx series may come earlier than Deere had projected.

I beg to differ, when a product manufacturer introduces products that crowd a segment in a short span of time, it suggests that it did not achieve its objectives with earlier releases. When a product sells well, it does not need to be upgraded or undercut by another product from the same company. Look around, durable products are offered for ever.

Demand, expectation, and taste drive the market for any product, and time will tell if the consumers can find value and satisfaction with the X5xx series machines.

Well put.

Gobbler, I also agree with what you say and you put it well. Time will tell, and Deere has a lot of time over the years that have apparently gone well. They also have a "division" in Horicon producing lawn and garden tractors, and another group somewhere else (Atlanta?) producing sub-compacts and another (?) compacts. I suspect these two or more groups, and maybe even others, are also strongly competing with each other for marketing "their own" products within Deere. Competition is good.
