I wast just reading an earlier topic about lighting and i would like to ask how many lights should i add to my tractor, the best lighting arrangement i have seen so far is 16 worklights + 2 headlights. I am sure i dont need so much. I only have an 85 amp alternantor and would like to ask how many extra lights i could add to my tractor.

I think maybe we were wondering whether you're just putting us on or not (16 lights?). If you search the archives for auxiliary lights or work lights, you'll probably find more information than you want to read. I added one 55 watt trapezoidal light on the front of my canopy and one 55 watt flood light on the rear of my canopy. Just divide the wattage (55 in my case) of whichever lights you would like to use by the volts (12) to see how many amps you'll be drawing, then you have to decide where you are going to tap into the power (at the battery?) what size wire and fuse(s) you need, etc. If you tell us what you want to do (within reason), we'll try to help you, but if you want 16 extra lights, I'd suggest you pull a trailer mounted generator behind the tractor to power them./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif That is, of course, unless you're talking about low amperage decorative lighting instead of work lights.

One of the things you also need to figure out is type of running. If your tractor is going to be run for short periods with the lites on then you will need to run less lites so the battery will have time to recharge after starting. With having a 85amp alternator it tells me you don't have a compact tractor but we find that normally six will light up enough of the world to farm safely at nite and should give you good results.

thanks guys, but if you want to see a tractor with 16 worklights go to www.renault-agriculture.com click on the british flag and then look at the atles range, you will find there are 2 headlights, 4 bonnet mounted worklights, 4 on the roof, an extra 2 next to the steps & fuel tank. Then on the back there are 2 mudgaurd mounted worklights, and up to four lights in on the roof, the reason i know this is because i spent hours looking at 1 at an agricultural show!!!!!!

Yeah, it's just that I get used to talking about "compact" tractors so much . .. What kind or size tractor do you have, and what are you using it for?/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My questions is why or do you want so many lights.
Todays lighting far better than yesterday lighting with less fixtures...2 for 1 ib brightness.
Before I would go and light up my tractor like a chirstmas tree, I would talk to someone about wire size, fuses, swtiches etc..
for the last thing I would want is electric fire or worst.$$$$/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Becareful have fun and stay /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

I have a 66 and a 67 Bolens. The headlight system on these tractors is far superior to the head lights on the BX23 Kubota.

Here are some thoughts I've been kicking around concerning lights on rops.
1. Use two lights rather than 4 lights. Mount them on a light bar that will swivel the lights up and down. I install the lights on the bar in a manner that will permit the lights to be rotated 360 degrees. The 360 degrees allows you to have light to the rear and front or both to the front or both to the rear.
Use magnets to mount the brackets for the light bar to the top rear edge of the rops instead of on top of the rops or under the top of the rops. Next bolt the ends of the light bar to the brackets with one bolt through each bracket into the bar.
Tighten the bolts just enough to hold the bar in place but loose enough to move it by hand. The swiveling light bar allows:
(A) Allows adjustment of the distance the lights shine out from the tractor.
(B) Gives more clearance above the lights and more head room under them.
(C) Lessens the chance of catching the lights on something overhead.
(D) Allows the lights to flip down if hit rather than breaking them.
(E) You can just flip the lights down to work under low hanging branches instead of having to remove them from the rops. However you still have the option of removing the bar and lights and unplugging the trailer connector.
*Advantages of the 360 degree rotation *
(A) Permits two lights instead of requiring 4 lights, thus reducing current flow.
(B) Lights can be turned both to front or both to rear. Or they can be turned one to front and one to rear. They can also be used for side lighting. Swiveling lights can provide illumination 360 degrees around the tractor.

Adjustment from one position to another is instant by hand. No wrenches or tools required.
A low profile light preferred over high profile lights.

I've been using this system of combining a rotating light bar with swivel mounted lights to install fog and driving lights on my pickups successfully for years.

More thoughts on lights.
Use a dual direction light with a clear lens on both sides that will cast light to the front and rear at the same time.

Thinking about experimenting with a hanging swing light magnetically attached to the cross member of the FEL to illuminate the bucket shadow when using the head lights.

Above side address did not work for me.
Got the below message when I tried to get on it.

Can't Find Web Site
Did you click on a link?
The site may no longer exist or it may have moved. If you know the exact Web address, type it into the address box at the top of your screen.

Did you type a Web address?
Double-check for any misspellings, punctuation errors, or extra spaces. Or try including http://www. at the beginning (i.e., if the address you were given is aol.com, type http://www.aol.com/).

Still no luck?
Try one of these links: http://www.netcenter.com/ or http://www.digitalcity.com/. If these work, any problems probably lie with the site you were trying to visit. If they don't work, close all programs currently running. Restart your computer, sign back on, and try the site again.
