Dealer How much does the Dealer get on a New Tractor?

Hi, This dealer that gave me the price for 9,000 on a B7500 tractor has only one mechanic. The waiting for a tractor to be repaired is between 3 weeks and 2 months. Is mechanic only gets 8.00 an hour. You wouldn't believe the waiting time for Kubota parts from the factory is 2 to 3 weeks at least to order.

When I brought this to the dealers attention he became very agitated and dismissed me and told me to buy from Carver "Just dont expect me to service it".

All I wanted was a fair price. The tractor dealers in my area are so arrogant quoting above list in most cases which left me disgusted and giving up on buying new. )</font>

Our area is certainly more expensive to buy than other parts of the country. I spent a while lamenting on this and then decided I'd rather spend the extra and enjoy the Kubota than sit around wishing I could get a better deal.

As it turns out I stumbled into a promotional event and wound up getting a decent deal plus the low financing.

Not sure what the markup is on them. I shopped a lot and bought local. Called surrounding states and everyone was within about $200.00. I paid the extra $200 and bought from a dealer in town. He'll be there when I need a part five minute before close on a Saturday and when I go back for another tractor he'll remember me as a repeat customer and treat me fairly. Nice guy, one salesman (him) and one mechanic (who sells when the salesman is at lunch). Both know their tractors.

Hi, The dealer told me that he makes very little profit on selling tractors of any model. But makes the big bucks on repairs. The problem is Kubota is built so good the he has very little repair work. Is this true?

I hope that the statement about Kubota's not breaking is accurate. Even when tractors don't break, dealers can earn your money by providing scheduled maintenance services, selling you new or used implements and helping owners of older equipment keep their tractors and implements operational by repairing them or selling parts to those who want to do their own work. As an example, I replaced the fender-mounted lights on the old JD 950 and they cost $40 each from the Kubota dealer- and that was with a discount. As was said before, the dealership has a lot of opportunities to make money. Mine even earned a $100 commission for taking my order for a metal carport to park my tractor under! And I do intend to pay him a small fortune to pick my tractor up and do the 50 hour service when it is due in a month or two. I feel very good about the service and pricing provided to me by my Kubota dealer in Manassas on the purchase and I want to stand by them when service and additional implements are needed.

All tractors wear out and need parts. My dealer rep, Rusty, who sells different brands says the Kubotas have less problems due to defects. He has told me the same thing for years.

I can say our new Kubota L4330 is the first tractor we have had zero problems with. Everything worked and it is still working months later. Usually some little things will need tweaking, but not this time. No defects at all. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Dealer prep has alot to do with this. My local JD dealer is lacking in the prep area. I tested tractors with loose fenders, stiff shift levers, lose wires, peeling stickers etc.. Sloppy Dealer! Its important to shop for good dealers too.

If this were true, then why is it dealers are Soooo hesitant to take a tractor for warrantee work when they find out it was sold from another dealer. Big deal right? After all, they don't make hardly anythiong off the original sale.

They do just fine on each and every transaction they make. Why? Because that is what they do. They are in bussiness. And there isn't a darn thing wrong with that.... That said, I'll take the best deal (factoring in intangables) that I can get. And I don't care if the small guy gets the $$ o the big guy. Fact is, I bought from a small guy 15 miles further away than the big guy. In retrospect, I think I did the right thing. Every time I try to pay a little more thinking it will get me something, I just find that it gets me wishing I'd have paid a little less. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
