I went to change the fluid in my “new to me” tractor. The manual says the transmission holds 34.5 liters, about 9.5 gallons. I put in 10 gallons of transmission/hydraulic fluid and it doesn’t even register on the dipstick. I ran around in a panic thinking I must’ve had the filter off or something expecting 10 gallons in the grass but it was all good and there’s no leaks. Could the loader be the culprit here? I didn’t do anything special to get the fluid out of the hydraulic lines. Just laid the loader on the ground to get the pressure out, so I would think the cylinders are still mostly full.

You sure your checking the right location?

Cylinders stay full unless you drain each one.

Yeah, the fill port is right in the center console area, and the dipstick is right next do it. The people I bought it from used straight hydraulic fluid in there for years so I wanted to get it out asap. I noticed when running it like that it foamed up and poured out the shifter so I don’t really know how much actual fluid I drained out. Once it had time to settle it was low, but when running it was obviously overfull.
