I was pretty sure that I was set on a TC40A, but now I am wondering if I should pay for the extra 4.6 PTO HP and go up to a TC45A. I didn't get a quote on the TC45A, but the difference in the base price between a 40A/DA and a 45A/DA on the New Holland website's Product Counselor is $1668.

For $1668 you get 4.6 PTO HP more, 13.5 cu. in. more displacement, and 49 lbs. more. All other specs are identical.

Is 4.6 HP and 13.5 cu. in. more displacement worth $1600?

All that I do on my farm with a tractor right now is pull a NH 130 manure spreader, bush hog (6' standard duty), and move materials (horse manure, gravel, sand, etc.). I would like to eventually add a post hole digger, a box blade, a sub-soiler, and a set of discs. There is also likely to be moving loaded hay wagons around a hilly area, mowing, tedding, raking, and occasion baling (dropping on the ground) if necessary. Do any of these tasks make the $1600 worth it?

Thanks.

In my honest opinion...no. You got the same frame and capacity in the TC40 as the TC45 with just a few less hp. If I was faced with this decision, I would opt out for the TC48 instead. It would be more $ but it's a bigger frame and higher capacity unit.

They both run the same mower, and pick up the same weight 3pt implement.

Either machine is going to spin a 6' mower like no tomorrow.. ditto on the box and spreader...

The only reason I would go higher is if I had a pto load that was marginal..like a 25kw genny that really wanted 48 pto hp.. to run at capacity.. so any more hp you have is extra capacity till you hit the genny capacity.. etc.

Thank you for the replies.

So, that's two Nos, which is pretty much how I felt. Do the Nos have it?

Yes, the no's do. In the case of the deal on my tractor, the difference was 2500.00 between the two. It got a definite no. I do mostly what you do with yours and you have my ideas on it. I don't think the 45 will take any larger of attchments than the 40. It would work them with slightly less effort, but mine does what I have to do so effortlessly that it would not be worth the extra cost to me. However, I do have a SS and it may be slightly different for a hydro.

I say go for the 45. I allays get the most hp I can and have never regretted it. Mowing and the bailer you mention will be much happier with the 45.

If the TC40 won't do it, I'd go with the TC48. I would not spend that extra $1600 on the TC45. I'd go maybe $1000 for the TC45, but not $1600.

I agree, you also get one rear remote standard (if memory serves me correctly) but no hydro. I would go with the TC 55DA to get the EHSS, not an option on the TC48.

Horsepower goes up, fuel economy goes down, and fuel's getting costly. I would not pay extra for more horses on the same frame. If the TC40 is marginal, go to the bigger frame.

I kinda like having a frame that's shared with a big sister. Makes me think I'm not as likely to break it with my little motor.

That depends...if EVER you encounter a task that requires that 4.6 extra hp, then yes. At times it might be priceless? Can you see yourself in that position?

Will any of those tasks ever max out the 4.6 less hp? I doubt it. Sorry I can't be of more help, I guess I've left the answer up to you?
