John, thanks for all the effort.

Try as I might, I cannot find any assembly on my tractor that looks remotely like your illustration. I have the 5030 parts manual, and there is not even a part listed as a screen or screen filter. I think that maybe the 5030 (and maybe even the 30 series) uses dual cartridge type filters (inlet and outlet) instead of a screen.

Thanks again.

All tractors are not created equal.
You can search till the cow's come home and you won't find a separate strainer on the grand L, it's been incorporated into the spin on filter in the pump supply line on the tractors right side, it's the one with the original ring magnet.
In this respect the grand L is superior to those with mere strainers, and I might add, more costly to service as a result.
Smoke 'em if ya got 'em.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I examined every inch, and the cows were in proximity.

I use Kubota OEM filters for service, and the replacement filters come with a new magnet in each. I have placed the old magnet on the outside bottom of the engine oil filter; and will do the same to the HST filter when I get another magnet. Probably obsessive/compulsive, but sometimes incremental changes are beneficial when added together.

The pictures I posted are for an (ahem) Kubota Grand L tractor. It is the "10" series, which has two spin on filters and the screen. Does that make it superior to those with only two spin on filters [grin]?

Kubota is a progressive quality driven company, so I don't doubt that the newer ones have the screen in the spin on filter now. Probably a smart thing to do as they are a pain to check. I also didn't know that there was a factory magnet. I have been sticking old hard disk drive magnets on the outside of the filters for years.
