How much slop should be in gearbox on deck of 425?

I want to check my U-joints and gear-box on JD 450 54in deck.
There's going to be some mesh slop but is there any way to measure or check for excessive slop from gears wearing.
Also is gear-box rebuild able?

Do you suspect slop for some reason?

As far as I have heard, there is no repair or rebuild in those deck gear boxes. Others may know better and can advise.

Assume your "450" is a typo and meant 425.

Yes it's a 425.

I've never seen one wear out that had oil in it.
