How much to pay for a HD Cub Cadet 54"cut blown motor??

Any thoughts on what a good price to buy a mint condition (except for a blown motor) cub? I forget the exact model, but it has a HD version with a 54"cut. I think it only had 74hours on it before it blew. It was one month past the 36 month warranty and the local dealer didn't honor it. I figure its a $4K mower new and working. I imagine a new motor and labor will run me $1k or so. What is a fair price for the mower "as is"?? Thanks for any thoughts.

You can check around on the model your talking about. Craigslist is a source which to find them locally. Check your local listings for a like mower. A new engine will cost you about a $1K for a 27Hp which would probably be an upgrade in Hp too. I'd offer $1800 - $2000. Start low and work up.

Which engine? Can't imagine a blown engine with 74 hours. Don't most run many hundred to a few thousand?
