I also think the "not enough oxygen" point is critical. There is a huge experience using calcium chloride and a lot of this rotting the wheels talk is a bit exaggerated. On the other hand, if there are leaks or you take the tire off without immediately rinsing the wheel then oxygen is involved and trouble follows.
I finally dismissed the idea of using CaCl simply because it was going to be such a hassle to do it myself while WWF would be pretty simple. I don't have any trouble understanding why real farmers stick with CaCl though.
