The contractor took out power, water and internet. I guess no one told the crew what the little flags used to mark utilities are for.

When the power blew, the electric company was in the middle of drilling a new hole for the pole, and it somehow shorted out the auger.

They worked all night trying to get the auger bit out of the ground. As of 8AM still no water.

No big deal, ill just carry buckets up from the creek for the toilets but with the drought we are in the creek is maybe only a couple inches deep now. 430 this morning, im digging a collection hole in the creek so I can fill buckets.

Was gonna go hunting but this morning kinda changed my plans but could be worse. I think the fiber optic crew could be looking for jobs today

Unfortunately this happens way too often.
Not to mention all the fence post holes that Ive seen augered into cables and water lines.

When I was a kid, the power company angered right through the 40,000 pair telco buried telephone cable for the west side of town. My memory centers around looking down the freshly angered hole (nosy kid) and asking the crew what the shiny stuff was in bottom. ("Just left over construction junk kid.")

The telco had to dig a 8x8 hole, and a rotating crew of two guys pair matched and spliced 40,000 pairs 24x7 for five days or so. I remember the cable seal was cast in place lead. Mom would periodically bring the crew lemonade.

There wasn't a Telco sign on the post about a buried line. I was too young to understand about the finger pointing, but my understanding now is that each utility is responsible for repairing the damage to its lines, regardless of who did the damage.

All the best,

Peter

Gross incompetence, on display. Anyone remember when good, smart, and competent men went into the construction trades, instead of all being coerced toward college?

Anymore, it seems the lead man on most work crews is just the guy with the shortest criminal record. Every retirement age contractor I know cites this as the biggest problem with the trades today.

I have three guys replacing one of my roofs this week. All of them are in their mid-60's, and every one will tell you they can't find any smart and motivated young guys without serious personal issues to work with them, anymore.

Geez... I'm starting to sound like an old guy. "Get off my lawn!"
