Yep, DFB, I had a strong partiality to John Deere for many years. At least until it came time to be spending my own money. Then, in this area at least, I decided they were just too proud of that green paint./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

You can certainly do the routine service on the tractor. It ain't rocket science. Follow the manual and you will be fine. You should be greasing the tractor fairly regularly, I think mine is set for every 50 hours unless I'm in wet/muddy conditions. Which I have been lately. My backhoe is to be greased every 10 hours of operations. Changing the oil is simple. Just don't overtighten the filter and make sure you rub a little oil on the gasket before putting the filter on the tractor. If you can fill the filter with some oil before putting it on the tractor. Can be messy if the filter fits on horizontally and not vertically.

I won't have to do my tranny for a while but its just another filter and filling with a lot more oil. If you have an HST tranny I think the first service was at 50 hours. Otherwise its around 200 or 300. I can't remember exactly and I don't have the manual nearby.

15. WOW. You are to young to have seen Star Wars when it first came out. We had some Co-Ops at work a couple of years ago when that fact hit me. I'm getting old at 36!

If you take it to the dealer, follow the recomendaitons in the manual, but you will find that you can do ost of the service yourself for a lot less$. If you change your own oil,the new 4100s have a smaller crankcase and filter, they DO NOT take the full 2.8 qts the manual states. It will take about 2.3 or so, stop at 2 qyts and fill the rest a little at a time, checking the dipstick.
