How to attract wildlife to game cam?

I wanted to attract more wildlife to my game cam. A watering hole would work but can one buy some type of watering hole device that would keep the water fresh and keep it from stagnating?

I know hay would work but the free range cows would probably eat it.

What kind of wildlife? A dead rabbit hung in a tree won't do much to bring in deer but is a great way to see some 'yotes.

Deer already come by, I wanted to attract some black bear or maybe elk. Water is universal in that it attracts all wildlife but like you mentioned, cows would be attracted to the water also.

Putting out any type of bait will be difficult with livestock around.

One year my buddies put out some of these deer licks in a field I didn't have cattle in. Well, I later turned the cows in that same field not thinking about where they had their licks. They were quickly consumed.

It will depend 1st if it's legal in you're state. In Texas feeding wildlife is legal, in Colorado it's not. I dont know where you are4, but I would check just the same.

If it is legal, you can make a feed station like many do here (Texas) that includes some form of "cow control" IE 2 strand fence, cattle panels ect tra.

I knew a guide in Colorado (before they outlawed baiting bears) that used 30-55 gallon barrels, barbed wired to trees, filled with any sweet stuff he could get in bulk. He would also dig a hole the size of a 5 gal. bucket and fill it with uses cooking oil.

Thomas beat me to it...I place my trail cams at my food plots. Also, if you have natural "choke points" on your land, thats a good place to hang one.

I keep one on the trail from a set of woods that I know they come and go from.....A "choke point"....................Just to see what is moving...
then another at the feeder with corn and sometimes cracked feed............Another where I wire attach to a stake the tree rats that I shoot around the house and feed them to the predators...........Then the last one where the 2 legged unwanted critters tend to come and go without my permission.....
Once I turn those pics over to a deputy it sure cuts down on my road alarms going off in the middle of the night....God bless........Dennis
