I finished up a job today and when I got home to grease and clean up my equipment I noticed the right side bearing was ready to disintigrate on my Woods power rake.

I was able to get the old bearing out, but I don't know how the new bearing goes in? Anyone done this before and have some advice for me?

The right side (not drive side) is easily accessible, but I'm wondering should I do the drive side as well?

I don't know how involved the drive side is.

I'm going to a bearing store tomorrow to see if I can get a new set of bearings and not have to pay $300 from woods. I need to get it back together as I was supposed to do another job tomorrow, and I had to tell the customer I can't show up due to equipment failure. Argh!

Apparently Woods isn't offering the manuals online anymore. Since the rake is manufactured by Harley, their manual discusses bearing replacement.

It should be the T6 model.
I'd also give Harley tech support a call. They were very helpful when I contacted them in the past for a similar rake. ;)

Thanks matt.

I ended up finding a bearing supply company that has something similar. I was able to bang out the old bearing and housing assembly (not sure what it's called) by heating out up red hot and having my father bang on the old bearing to get it out.

The new one slid in very nicely with only light tapping. However, it isn't a perfect match so I'm hoping that is going to be okay. The end of the new bearing isn't flush with the end of the drum shaft like the old one.

Unfortunately, when my dad was banging out the old bearing, it let go and bounced off the edge of the take frame hitting me in the stomach for a split second. Doesn't take long for a burn to set
In!

That's terrible, I was wondering if the bearing was a press fit originally. It must have been with the needed heat and force to remove.
Glad you got it resolved.
