How to change gears

/ How to change gears #11
At least once a month I drive off with the parking brake on. Glad to know I am not the only one.

The trick to that is to set the parking brake hard enough that it will not move when put in gear .

I can't take credit for this suggestion because someone posted it before........ While the tractor is stiil moving or slowly coming to a stop, depress clutch, step on the brake, and then change range. Stepping on the brake seems to keep the "pressure" off of the gears as you come to a stop and MOST of the time changing ranges is very smooth. It's all second nature now and works very well for me. The idea here is to have the brakes stop you and not the tranny. Good Luck.

Excellent advice, HODAK. I don't know why I did not see this earlier. I have
been doing as the previous posters have, but using the brakes is lots better.
You don't even have to push the clutch before you brake. Since I am nearly
always on hills, getting the pressure off the gears is not always convenient.
