Contaminated fuel (bits of grass/dirt) got dumped into my 2012 massey ferguson 2615 tractor by mistake. Bleeding the fuel filters hasn't helped. Tractor can't sustain RPM's and I figure the next step is to drain the tank. My question is, do I have to siphon it or is there a drain plug?

Where is the tank? Can you look to see how easy a line could be removed? That would be the easiest way.

Thanks Will. I disconnected the fuel line and drained the tank - hope all the contaminants drained out with the fuel. I plan on flushing the tank with some clean diesel before reconnecting the line. Any other suggestions for making sure the tank is clean?

Other than pouring clean diesel through, I'd change the fuel filter before you start it up. Then change again as needed.

Can you get your shop vac into the tank nozzle. After draining the fuel, I would put the vacuum hose in it and vacuum up any remaining trash. It should do a much better job than a simple flush with clean fuel.

Go to the hardware store and buy some 1/2" flexible plastic tubing and siphon the tank out. Move the tip of the hose around in the tank as you siphon. That diameter tubing is large enough to suck out some decent sized trash and not plug up.

On the older MF there was a small filter on top of the fuel valve.

I cleaned my (industrial) tank by removing the drain plug. After it was empty, I took a pressure washer and "power sprayed" the entire inside as best I could, letting it also drain out the plug.

I then took a garden pressure can, filled it with diesel (that I usually use to light my fires) and then "power sprayed" the inside of the tank with diesel.

I've yet to see any negative effect from doing this (maybe 8 years ago)
