Any suggestions on how to drain a backhoe of its old hydraulic fluid? It has been sitting for serveral years (a most interesting lawn ornament), and I have no idea what type of fluid it has. I am concerned about mixing the old fluid with my tractor's hydraulic fluid.

Thanks for your help. Ron in Central New York

The only way to completely purge the system of any traces of old hydraulic fluid is to remove all components, lines cylinders, etc, disassemble and clean.

Hook up the pressure line, pull the quick connect off of the return line, stick the line in a bucket and cycle all of the hydraulics. Have hydraulic fluid on hand to refill your tractor while you're doing it.

Have your engine on idle while cycling the cylinders otherwise you will fast drain your reservoir.
