How to fix a hazed-up wood burning stove pyro-ceramic glass

I have a coal stove and I'm on my 3rd glass. The first got hazed over then it cracked, the second got so hazed over that you could only see light coming through. I tried everything to clean it, and nothing worked.

Then I was talking to a buddy who seems to know a little about everything. He asked what I was cleaning it with. I told him 409, glass cleaner, whatever I had on hand. He said ammonia will react to heat and yellow your glass. He recommended I use white vinegar and a paper towel. So, I get new glass and followed his advice, and what do you know, no more yellow haze. I have been doing it this way for years and it is still clear.

Once a day I'll pop the door open and give it a quick wipe down with a dry terrycloth towel to get the ash off.

I mix baking soda with a bit of vinegar to make a paste. Wipe it on the glass when its fully cooled and give a gentle scrub. Wipe it off with a wet cloth. It shines.

I was also told by a fireplace installer not to use anything with ammonia in it.

Great information everyone - I really appreciate it...

I will start out with the least invasive like the ash/water and papertowel. IF this does not work, I will get more aggressive. I will take pics and keep you posted..

Lastly, i learned that the woodburing stove door glass is not glass, but a pyro-ceramic composition. A video stated that if the soot/etc was left on too long and burned in, the ceramic is damaged. If so, the only way is to buff out the haze. from the video, it looked very, very labor intensive...I have the tools, but will last resort this option.
