Hello again wesuri, I have been talking to an MF man.
With the gear stick in neutral, push the stick to the right, when you encounter resistance push firmly to the fight so you go through the detent . Shift the gearstick forward to engage H high( I believe you are in M range from your description) range, then return to regular neutral and you will have engaged H high range.
To down shift from H to M range repeat the above.
To go from M to L range , go through the detent and shift BACK to engage L low range.
The gears in the range change detent are from front to back H,high M, medium neutral, L, low.
NOTE there are H, M, L, light on the dash board to tell you what range you are in. It is quite common for these light bulbs to blow, especially with age.
Last Note, the gear linkages have a small needle bearing inside the gearbox that gets worn and falls off the shaft into the bottom of the gearbox. To fix this you will have open the gearbox up from the top.I was told it is a big job to unbolt all the stuff to get into the gearbox, and once there it is a simple job to replace the gear linkage bearing.
good luck.
and do give some feed back, that is how this site works.
