how to measure and cut pto shaft

can some tell me the correct way to figure out the proper length of pto shafts . I just lengthen my pto shaft on the wood chipper had to weld new shaft on the yokes for the new tractor .now I need to cut the shaft down ,I know you need both upper and lower measurements , but then what .is there a proper way to do this ,I guess you all know this is one measurement that is not fun to screw up thanks

Yes, kully, there's a proper way to do it. But rather than me try to describe it here, just go to Bushhog.com, click on "Owners Manuals" in the left column, then click on "RTN-RTH-RTNR Rotary Tillers" which will open a .pdf file, page down to page 9 and you'll have both written and illustrated instructions, which apply to other implements as well as tillers.

thanks bird it sure helps ,bush hog has a little better information then my beefco manuel .they both say the shorter length is more imporant so as to not bottom out but also check over lap . well like they say measure twice and cut both sides once thanks for the help kully

Thanks for the info Bird. Those directions are much better than what came with the Woods GTC I just bought.

I got lucky on my Woods GTC shaft. It fit just fine from the start with my Pat's EZ Change system on. Guess I might have had to cut off a little without the Pat's on. John
