Tractor
JD 5205, JD 4230
I'll be moving up in horsepower shortly. I found a clean low hour (970) 2000 New Holland TT75A today for $27,500. It has a decent loader installed. I'm thinking that they are asking about what the tractor and loader sold for twenty-one years ago. I called before driving the hundred miles to try to get a feel for how solid they are on that price. We had a good conversation about the lunacy of the current market and then I mentioned that the machine was priced about where it sold at new. How much wiggle room in the price? The dealer said "not much". I might can do twenty five. I responded that I might could do twenty. We left it at that. I'm of the opinion that a rising tide lifts all boats. My present tractor is a 2000 JD 5205 with a 521 loader. It cost about $22,000 when I bought it used (200 hrs) in 2002. It now is sitting at 998 hours. I repainted the loader and the tractor looks really sharp. I placed some feelers on a few tractor and equipment groups on Facebook with a $15,000 value on mine, stating that it isn't for sale until I cover my needs. I'm looking for someone that might want to trade down or even point me to a good deal so that they can buy my tractor. I've gotten a couple of leads on who is interested but no help from anyone in locating a potential purchase. My question for you all is this; am I too cheap considering what we are seeing the current used tractor market. Do I just go balls to the wall and value mine at $20,000 or do I keep on looking for a deal that is more in line with how I have my tractor valued presently.

Probably depends on how anxious you are to sell it. The best way to determine the value of your used tractor is to price it on the high side and see how many people show an interest. If no one calls it is too high. If you don't have time to do that then price it lower and take what you get. I make a point of never allowing myself into being pressured to make a deal, either buying or selling. (that attitude drives salesmen crazy!) If the tractor you are looking at sells before you are ready, so be it. Another will come along that might even be a better deal.
The price of used tractors is up. It isn't unusual to see a used tractor sell for it's original purchase price, or even higher if it is older.

I bought a used JD 5525 six years ago this July. Sold it last year for about $5,000 more than I paid for it. I did replace the standard loader with a self leveling loader. Price of tractors had increased that much. I have seen tractors sell used for what they were new. Not real often but have seen it. I found using the online sites (not sure all their names right off but just search for the model you had to sell) is the best way I can determine a price.

Auction prices and offering prices is what I used for comps. It is hard to tell condition from a picture and a brief description though.
