The clutch plates on my LandPride cutter are seized up and adjusting the springs doesn't free them. According to the manual I need to remove the plates to clean them up. Getting the plates off will mean removing the shaft. The shield is hiding access to the release button and I'm not having much success getting the shield off. The tractor end has the same locking mechanism and is easier to work with so I'm using that the figure out how it works. There is a plastic lock screw tab but I'm at the point where I don't know which is the lock/unlock position as it just keeps turning through 360 degrees. As I turn/push/pull the shield with the lock in different positions I am not getting any movement.

Is the plastic lock mechanism supposed to release the individual pieces of the plastic parts or release the shield from the shaft? Any advise on how to go about this?

Thanks
Tom

Usually there will be a screwdriver slotted head that when turned a certain way will release, usually turn 180 degrees and push in and then do the other one on the same end of the shaft, I can't tell from your pictures if that is the style you have though, good luck if you keep pilfering with it long enough you'll get it.:D

Thanks, here is how it went with this one (made in Italy).

1. Turn the screw lock 180 - rounded at the top, then pries it out.
2. Then you can turn the collar to align the tabs with the raised portions and pries them out.
3. The collar can then slip back
4. Then sleeve can be freed from the inner tabs if wanted
5. Reverse to reassemble, then align the access holes in the collar to locate the position to reinsert the screw lock and lock it.
6. Turn to close the access hole.
