Have a Terramite T-9 & 1 fel cylinder seal is starting to leak. Wondering how to replace seals. Should I remove entire cylinder & send the unit out?
Thanks for any info

Do you have a Terramite dealer in your area, and if so, purchase a seal kit and do it your self.

If you are not up to it, any hyd shop should be able to rebuild the cyl.

I can order a kit from Terramite. I'm know my way around a tool box, just never worked on Hydraulics before & was wondering if something I could do.
How involved is it to replace the seals?

I general, if you can leave the cyl base end secure, and remove the rod end bolt/pin. Spin the cap off the rod end and pull the assembly out of the cyl bore. Have a pan or catch basin handy to catch any spills. After the rod and piston assembly are out, clean off everything with a lint free rag, and lay on a clean work area. Observe what parts go where, and use a soft pic to remove the 0-rings and seals. remove the piston, might be tight, as it was installed with Loctite. Soak the o-rings in hyd fluid and install observing any directional seals. Install the rod upper seals first, and then install the piston with some Loctite. I think red. Install the piston seals, and then lube everything with hyd fluid and re-install. You can fill the cyl with fluid if possible, and if not, the cyl will auto bleed the air as you cycle the cyl several times.

Some people use warm to hot water to soak the o-rings, if they are difficult to install.

You could make yourself a spanner wench to fit those holes, or just tap the holes with a blunt rod and hammer until loose.

Just an add on about the cyl seals.

Some people say you should do both cyl if one is leaking, but that will be up to your logic about replacing only what is broke. If the other cyl is not leaking in a set of cyl. I say leave it alone until it needs replacing or fixed.

You can go ahead and order both sets of seals for standby. Fix what needs fixing and save the other set for future needs.

just reread your post, you mentioned the" piston might be tight as it was installed with lock tight" I would guess it safe to assume the cylinder will spin out or unscrew? Does it spin counter clock wise to loosen or does it depend on the cylinder?
Thanks

I believe the nut is a right hand thread. If you connect the rod end mount to something solid, it would lock the cyl rod down so you could spin off the nut and remove the piston.
