Unless its Cold out you should not need to preheat a Perkins diesel engine like this. You should be able to crank it right over. On our small 4 cyl perkins it has a thermostart manifold preheater which has a glowing insert that ignites a fire fueled by diesel fuel inside the manifold itself. This is ignited by holding the key in the reverse position I believe... Here is a video of it starting. I have not been around it for a while. Cold start on Massey Ferguson MF25 diesel - YouTube
I made the video myself, although it is a different massey it may be of some help. Other things to check: make sure the engine is cranking over fast enough and that the fuel shutoff is pushed all the way in. Make sure the shut off is also in the position needed at the mechanical fuel pump as well.
The Massey 245 does not come standard with any cold start assist. If there is a block heater it would be on the right side of the tractor with a 120v plug.
On the lower left there should be knob that should be pushed in. The knob is pushed out to stop the tractor.
My 255 never had either one, well it did have a block heater I just never got around to putting it on the tractor. It always started so I never worried about it.
Right, they do not have glow plugs. I have two, one starts better in summer, the other better in cold weather. Block heaters help regardless of whether or not you can start it in cold weather.
