I've asked here before about tires and I have one more question before I buy some new tires. I was wondering if anyone knows the rime width that is on the cub 2500 tractors? I am guessing it's either 7 inches or 8.5 inches, but I don't want to pop a tire off just to measure. I'm guessing it's 8.5 inches since the 9.5 inch wide tires don't bulge in on the rims, but I just don't want to find out the hard way. I was wondering if someone out there knew? Thanks!

I have 8.5" Ags on mine, and they protrude beyond the edge of the rim, though not much. So I would guess the rim measures about 8", maybe a hair less.

They're probably 8.5" then, I'm sure the 8.5AG tires are made to have a slightly wider sidewall width than the tread.

I'm looking at getting some soon myself, I think I'll go with 8.5AG as well. I know some have used the 10.5 successfully, but if you look at them they're huge compared to these wheels.

I'm thinking of trying these on ebay, can't beat the price and they look pretty good. Six ply too. Wonder if anyone else has used Deestone?

What about a tire like this then?

24x12.00-12 CARLISLE AT101 LUG TIRE

from description on ebay:
===============================
"This is a tubeless tire and has a maximum capacity of 1700lbs per tire at 20psi. Mounted diameter is 23.8", mounted width is 12.2" on a 8.5" rim.

Aggressive tread pattern (please see photo). They offer loads of torque with their farm tractor like tread. Great for PULLING tractors. Lots of traction for equipment that must handle well in snow on hard or soft ground."
===============================

If the rims are 8.5" width then I could mount a pair like this on the tractor and have to make a slight level adjustment to the deck to be the correct level again, but I am guessing I would have tons of traction?

Those tires are 24" diameter, so no, they won't mount on the Cub 2500 rims.

This is the part I don't understand and maybe you can help me. If the rim is 12 inches x 8.5 inches wide and there is at least .5 inches more clearance under the wheel well (it's got to be at least 1 inch or more), then wouldn't that tire size work? The 24x12-12 fits on a 12x8.5 rim.

I realize that a larger tire diameter changes the gear ratio and the tractor will run a little bit faster. I also realize that the deck will need to be re-leveled afterwards, but I still don't understand why it wouldn't work.

I guess I'm just clueless when it comes to tire sizes. Thanks for any help you can offer!

I should not have said they wouldn't mount on the rim, I should have said they wouldn't clear the wheel well. My bad.

And even with my corrected statement, I still may be wrong. It's been know to happen :) The reason I don't think they fit is because the 23" ags that I have are taller than the 23" turfs they replaced. By a noticeable amount. I'd guess about 3/4" or so. My ags are close enough to the wheel well now that chains would barely fit without contacting the wheel well. If they were 1" larger in diameter, they'd be running very very close to the wheel well.

Now, my experience may not be typical. There may be something funky going on that I'm not aware of. But my tires are Carlisle's, so I don't think the true diameter of my ags are much different than industry norm.
