HOPEFULLY THIS ISNT TO CONFUSING.
In the photo lets establish some direction to explain myself. The paved road sits east of property. This is about 8 acre's that I want to turn into a home place. The rectangle at lower end of photo will be my yard. It runs about 120 yards east to west and a 100 yards north to south. I know its not laid out to scale but you should get the point. from the paved road to the top of shaded rectangle is about a six foot rise. House will sit about 2/3 up the hill in shaded area. Then the open area you see behind the shaded retangle is about six inches lower than crest of hill which is illustrated as the top of the shaded rectangle to the west with black line. Actually there is a rise all the way around this open area that is illustrated with black lines. Except for the yellow line going south but the elevation change here is not very pronounced so not much fall.
I would like to dry that open area that sits to the west (top) of shaded rectangle I have shown inside of black lines The yellow marking indicate drainage areas. The area inside of black lines is about 6" lower so its holding water and is flat. This is clay soil so water don't move to fast through it. The yellow area to the NW corner of photo has the most elevation change after that little rise and it drops off about three feet. The yellow drain going south has less fall over a greater distance and its about 2' Of course the paved road to the east is all about 6 feet lower than top of hill. The blue lines represent going up a hill or rise in elevation. The open area I would like to dry is about 1.5 acres and I just want to mow it and be able to drive my tractor across it with out getting stuck. The bare ground to the south is a gravel pit that should work its way west and boarders my property.
I have a friend with a bull dozer so I'm looking at how this could be graded to help with water issues. The work will be done this summer when it dries out and hopefully I can build a house here in a couple of years. The green you see in the phots is pine trees that are not that old but most of the open area that didn't take in pines is flat without much elevation change. I'm thinking I can cut a swale ditch to the west of open area about three feet deep and run it to the NW corner. Then grade from east to west with a fall toward that low swale I will make.
