LATE 1952 FORD 8N
Hi, new here and looking for some helpful info. I just picked up a HR3-50 2001 I believe. Serial A-323G. I am told I am the 3rd owner. Unit appears to be in good condition. Except for the leveler and the cover shield has a few splits in the metal where the gear box mounts. I didn't think it would be so hard to find parts on the web or info from manufacturer. I will try to post some pics. it will be used for food plots and few acre garden. Michigan thumb area Loamy soils, peat to sandy. Any info to look out for would be appreciated. Unit cost me $700.00. Tines appear original and in very good condition, no bends, dents or missing tines. Edges are dull but still full width. Thanks in advance.

notice the wear on the 1 outer tine. That seems to be the worst 1 by far compared to the rest. Looks like a bit of work to reweld and straighten the metal but not a bad job. The one I'm concerneed about is the small tab on the output shaft to the chain case. I am assuming someone backed into something pretty hard to tear metal like that and thus why the factory leveler is gone.

Seeing how bent out of alignment the gear box is, was it enuff to hurt the drive system. I am assuming the previous owner might have run it this way for a while. Thanks again

I have the HR4 tiller and it has certainly been a workhorse for me. Looking at the pictures of the tines you posted I would suspect they have been changed by someone along the way. My local Kubota dealer was able to provide me with tines so I ordered a bunch to have on hand along with the mounting bolts / hardware. I would suggest that you check the bolts and make sure they are the proper ones. If they are undersized it will elongate the mounting holes.

Check and maybe change the oil in the gear box. Not a hard job but you will be starting out with fresh lubrication which might be a good idea.

As for the bent / slightly broken drive and welding might be the first thing I would attack.

Oh and the diamond plate rear shield is cute but certainly not original. The metal used on mine is bent up pretty badly as I backed up one time with the tiller down, Heck I might buy some diamond plate for mine and replace the old one..LOL

One last thing, I would recommend that you take the slip clutch off and take it apart to check the slip plate, then reinstall it. Mine did not come with a slip clutch so I would think that was an add on by the person you bought it from. (?)

Well I tore into it the other day, and I have everything trued up except for the areas I'm welding. Need to get that notched out and prepped for tig welding before I straighten the final piece. Every nut & bolt I turned so far has never been touched. Now the tines if they were replaced would have new bolts so I wouldn't be able to tell there. However the oil that I drained was like brand new. Its just a guess but the way everything looks, it appears to have less than 50 hours on it, definitely under 100. The oil drain bolts are in mint condition, paint was taken off some of the sides where a wrench would go but not all. I do know it hasn't been touched for 23 months. The manual shows the PTO slip clutch as original Equipment, and I'll get some pics of that. But it is also in mint condition other than the plate being froze up. That is one item I want to know how to adjust, as I will be using a 1952 Ford 8n with 28 PTO HP on rock and rooted ground. The manual has a number on it 96578-2001, so I'll take a wild guess that the unit is 2001 or newer. I don't know when they changed the HR# to the 200B series.

I have (I think) a HR-6 that looks very similar. It is just 42" which suit me fine as all I use it for is our 60' garden. I paid $600 used from a tree nursery about 4 or 5 years ago. Don't have a slip clutch I keep putting it off as the tiller is not used much and I have most of the obstructions already removed from the garden. I should probably add one though.
