Hi, newbie here from Wake Village, TX (near Texarkana).
I have a 1974 Ford 5000 70hp 4 cylinder diesel (actually, depending on who you talk to, somewhere between 69-72hp, but who cares) tractor. Also have a 6' Big Bee rotary cutter (we just call 'em bush hogs around here) and a post hole digger attachment.
I bought it mainly because we recently purchased, get ready for this, a pet cemetery, of all things. Weird, huh? Feels that way, but the pet cemetery had been basically abandoned, and we bought it so it wouldn't be bulldozed.
Part of the property, about 2.5 acres, needs frequent bush hogging, but I plan this winter to get it prepared for plain mowing by next spring.
I will use the post hole attachment, with a 9" auger, to dig graves. I will place 6-12 holes, depending on size of deceased pet, The plan is to then just scoop out the soil. It is really good sandy loam with some of that fine Texas red dirt below, and no rocks.
After a career as a machinist, both job shop and later working with GE jet engines, I like to tinker with machinery. I like to think I can fix nearly anything mechanical, often by discussing it with other people and learning from their experiences. Of course. it takes me forever, due to some spinal problems and arthritis, but I get by.
I'm looking forward to being a member here. Thanks for having me.
