Winter has been pretty gentle to me thus far this year. I've used the blower only once, back bladed the rest. There's a hill in one part of my drive that for the first time ever I've been able to blow going up!:dance1: I've also been impressed in a couple spots along the road where i push the banks back - getting in and out with no problems. Loaded turf tires have definitely increased my traction in the snow.

Now if i could only figure out why it's hard/stiff when range shifting into 3rd and 4th...:scratchchin:

I was surprised on how well these turf tires get traction in the snow. I have a pretty good grade on my drive and didn't slip at all

Generally the tractors i have driven get better traction than a car in any circumstance so thats probably one thing yall have going. Now im not saying you have not seen a difference between the old tires and turfs if you had them, probably so since there is more rubber on the ground.

Hi Todd-

Glad to hear that your filled turfs are working out. I've got turfs on my Wheel Horse and, although much smaller and not filled, when I put chains on them it REALLY started to get around. If things get icy or you lose traction, you might consider a pair of chains.

Are you switching between the blower and back-blade on the same machine? Is that a real pain?

Does your machine have 4 ranges? Maybe something frozen in the linkage?

I'm enjoying this mild winter as well. If only it could snow everywhere but my 700' driveway, right?

I use a back blade when there's only an inch or two of snow. My blower scatters just about as much as it picks up when it's that shallow. Switching between the two isn't that bad. I make sure I put down on a couple 2x4's so that the weight is on only a couple points, and it's easier to shift around. I've been watching craigslist for an old snowplow - I'll mount that on the front and have no more switches...??

Range shift will have to wait from another post. Threw it out as a teaser... Done a bunch of reading on when a YM2000 is stiff to shift and how it is common for a couple of gears to be the culprit - one with dogs, one with matching holes. Hopefully that is not my problem...and i just have a shift for that needs a little adjusting.

Thanks for the report! I'm glad they are working out for you. Your picture reminds me why I live in Texas... brrrr! :)

About the stick gear, have you cleaned the hydraulic filer or changed it?

If cleaning it, use a new tooth brush if the material is the olefin type. Remember, never back flush any olefin material.
