I just purchased a JD855 and was wondering how much plow and disc i can pull.
i have a 3 acre field in the woods I would like to break up and plant deer food.
The soil is yellow clay and tuff to work Thanks LHK
Is this your tractor? TractorData.com John Deere 855 tractor information
Is it 2wd or 4x4?
Next time a little better description would be nice. I would say you are in the ballpark of a 1 bottom plow and a 60" disk.
Not much. That thing is light at 1,890#. Really made for lawn work and maybe a grader blade. Not really the right tool for the job. Maybe you can get someone with a heavier machine do the work for you then finish it off with your tractor?
thanks for the help. It is a 4X4 and i was thinking of a 1 bottom plow. and a 6' disc. I dont think buying a bigger unit would make sense for just 3 acres.

It will easily pull a 2 x 12" plow and a 6 foot disc is the trick for that tractor. People tend to oversize tractors to implements. The Dearborn 2x12 plow I have and the Dearborn Lift E 6 foot disc were made for the 8N sized tractors.

For cultivators that are "in the ground" people tend to work on around a foot per 10hp but increasing as tractors get heavier.....100hp on 10ft.....280hp on 32ft....350hp on 40ft as a rule..!
Or with plows depending on furrow width ..taking a 14 inch average 20hp per furrow..
My 755 2wd handles a 1 bottom plow and a 6 foot disc in yellow clay pretty well. I have 180 lb wheel weights on each side. I would not recomend a 2 bottom plow on a 855.
