I have been looking at a lot of tractors. Was leaning to Deere but appears Kubota may give me more for my money (Even w/ financing options).
**
Started w/ L3400 and a loader. Now looking at L3240 and L3540 tractors both w/ loaders.
**
I need a tractor for general use, bush hogging, box scraper, tilling (food plots, garden) and loader misc use.
**
I am wondering if I will ever notice the hp difference between the 2 tractors. Both are larger/heaver than L3400 and engine hp 3 higher on 3540 and pto 2.5 hp higher on 3540. Looks like identical machine to me.
**
Just wonder how much price difference I should expect and if the 3540 is worth the difference? Just getting quotes now.

Both 3240-3540 are much nicer... I would not recommend the L3400, to anyone. I have an L2800 and have more than enough power for what I do. I don't think you'll notice a the difference. What size bush hog will you want to run?

I'd say see what your dealer has on the lot and what he can do for you. I ended up with the L4240 because it was there for a while and before 2 price mark ups. I got more tractor as compared to the 3540 for just a little more money.

I also chose Orange over green for the same reason you speak of, I felt I got more for my buck. I have over 100 hours on her now and you still can't wipe the smile off my face!

Scot,
I was in the same dilemma back in July. I went with the 3240 for about $1500 less.
It has more power than any tractor I've had before. I have the L724 loader on it and am very pleased.

Both are fine machines, i doubt you would ever notice the gross hp difference in the motor, perhaps you could on the pto depending on what implement you are running? Both tractors will serve you well.

Scott,

The diffrence really come down to the PTO HP you need. If you plan on running a Land Pride RCR18 series with either a 60 or 72 inch deck the L3240 is all you need. If you need a bigger cutter in a 26 series you need to go to a minimum of an L3940 and preferably an L4240. Check the specs of the brush hog you need see what the PTO requirements are and then select the tractor. If your doing grass with light brush an 18 series should work. If your trying to clear wooded trails you might need somrthing heavier duty. This require a HD Gear Box therefore more tractor PTO needed. The L3240 gives you SO MUCH MORE LOADER:) CAPABILITY and with HST plus is sweeeet. More $ upfront but ut will likely take you a lot longer to trade out of. Make sure you measure the sides of your truck, what your dumping into so that the loader can reach over.

I faced the same dilemna about 2 months ago. 3240 vs. 3540. I went with the 3240. 2-3 more hp for 2k just wasn't worth it. My dealer, who I trust, felt that I would not see a noticeable difference and recommended the 3240 over the 3540 for me. I could not be happier with this machine. No regrets. Go with the 724 loader, HD bucket and QA system. Definately worth the extra few dollars. Pull the trigger, you won't regret it.

The 724 fel is way more loader than the standard 513, and is well worth the money as is the QA system. I can change from my bucket to forks in 30 seconds!
