When my BX24 says 22hp where is that measurement taken? Also, is there a difference hp readings between components ie: engine, axel or PTO? If there is a difference, when an implement says "X" hp required is there a difference between a PTO driven implement ie: tiller, auger & 3pt mower and a drag behind 3pt implement ie: box scraper, landscape rake & rear blade?

Thanks in advance for your input :)

Welcome to TBN.

Their is multiple answers to your question.

First, according to tractordata TractorData.com Kubota BX24 backhoe-loader tractor information

Your tractor makes 23HP at the engine and 17.7 at the PTO.

So for your PTO driven stuff, most specify a MAX HP. Like most 5' bushhogs only have a gearbox rated for 40 or 50HP. That means you do NOT want to go over that @ the PTO. Since you only have 17.7HP to play with, I doubt you will rin into trouble their. But you dont want to get something that is TOO big for you to run either.

Other 3PH implements like blades, rakes, etc are different. Sometimes they specify Minimum HP requirements and sometimes the spec MAX. This is usally based on engine HP. Just stay within your limits. But dont read into it too much. Because it is not HP that is important with ground engaging implements. It is traction. And traction is a function of weight. And since the BX's are light for their respective HP, you will run out of traction WAY before you run out of power.

For example, if a rear blade is rated for 40HP MAX, you will tear it up easier with a 4000lb 35HP tractor vs a 3000lb 45HP tractor.

But with the BX, it is also important that you look at your rear lift specs. The BX is not overly powerful out back. Some implements might just be too heavy for you to lift. The owners manual usually has guidelines for max weight for different implements.
