So I'm getting ready to build a cnc plasma table, the original idea was to pick up a mechanical torch for my Hypertherm 45 and use that until I can upgrade. While poking around CL I found an excellent deal on a Hypertherm PM105 and should be picking it up tomorrow.

Looking around I see very few 105 being used, seems everyone is using the 65 or 85, I'm guessing because of the 105 being 3phase only but still found it odd I haven't seen even one example of them on plasma table.

I'm pretty excited to finally be able to expand my capabilities and the 105 will allow me to do everything I need, I will be doing light production so the increase in cut speed on heavier metal will be very beneficial.

They're out there. Hyp 105's TD 152's. The drawbacks are high consumable use, duty cycle concerns and suffering cut quality running high amp air cooled. That may all be ok with you. Depends on what you are after. Many production houses jump up to dual gas, liquid cooled for optimum speed, quality and duty cycle. Again, Depends on what you want to accomplish. I've seen many 100 amp air cooled setups cutting 1/2" at production speeds. You will likely have more bevel, wider kerf and more dross with air cooled as well. Good Luck !!

I figure they're out there, just surprised I really haven't seen any, our typical parts are usually .250" or less but we will have .500" and even some over 1.00" however those wont be very often at this point. From everything I've seen it should have plenty of duty cycle and the cut quality appears to be acceptable for what we are making.

I guess I should have worded the question better, mainly I was just wondering if there is any downside besides the price and being 3phase only that makes them less popular.

Honestly the only reason I'm getting it now is that I cant past up the deal on it, even with a new 50ft machine torch it'll cost me less then buying a new Hypertherm 65. Will be nice to do heavy cutting when I need to.

Sounds like a great deal to me. Parts really aren't that hard to clean up. 3 Phase is only an obsitcle if you don't have it. Plus it's the only way you can get full power and duty cycle out of your machine. There's nothing like getting a steal on something like this. Good luck and show us some cut parts when you get there.

Pocked it up today, my machine torch wont be here for a couple weeks so I'm going to borrow a buddies hand torch to test it out, I did plug it in and it powers up and it switches through all its functions.

I have a trailer of steel waiting and hope to start on the table this week.

Other mechanical components are on order and I'll be ordering the electronics at the end of the week most likely. 20181211_173707.jpeg20181208_160552.jpeg

Envious!

Are you making your own design, or following plans?

Also are you going down draft or water table? Power Supply looks good !!

I'm using the precision plasma llc Magnum HD7 gantry and plans. I could have done my own but because of time constraints this was the most economical way to get up and running quickly.
I'll be using the water table for now but might switch to a down draft setup later on.

The guy wasn't exaggerating when he said the unit had very little usage, it looks like new other then a little dust. I wish it already had the rs485 port but that's easy enough to add.
Have been moving equipment into the new shop so I figured I'd get a picture of the 45 next to the 105 :)20181211_214303.jpeg20181211_214311.jpeg
