I notice on both the diesel and gas models that the exhaust exits at an angle right toward the inside of the left rear tire.

I'm thinking that over prolonged use, the heat from the exhaust will affect the rubber of the tire.

Has anyone found a piece of curved tubing that could be used as an extension to reroute the exhaust flow straight out the back and away from the tire?

I don't think you need to worry about the heat on the tire. If you ran the engine at full throttle all the time it might be a problem, but with the on/off throttle these machines run at there's little chance of overheating the tire.

My 4400's exhaust blows on the left front wheel, in fact the inside of the wheel is dark from the exhaust. This engine is run nearly full throttle when I mow. I've had it over 5 years now and the tire shows no damage.

Hey Chuck,
Seems like I haven't heard much from you since your HPX issue.
I concur with jesse1. I really don't think the heat would affect the tire. If you put your hand on the tire can you keep it there for more than 15-20 seconds? If so, you should be OK. A trailer being towed by a vehicle will normally generate more heat than your tractor's exhaust.

Hey Jesse,

Thanks for the reply. I held my hand on the tire as it idled and it seemed kinda warm to me. Just seems like it should be routed out the back but I suppose it'll be ok. Maybe I'm just fishin' for something to post about! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Brian,

Everything is going good with the diesel HPX. So good in fact, I haven't had anything to post. Been keeping up with all the RTV traffic on here though, it seems to be a very popular machine!!

So far, so good. No problems to report. Just did my first oil change and fuel filter change.

Had my ROPS installed. This thing is really nice! It's really like having a cab with a roof. A glass windshield with wipers and doors can be added. Also had rear worklights installed.

They're using a hydraulic dump on the HPX's. Twin cylinders that seem to be very strong. Bedliner is like the one used on the older Gators. Receiver hitch mounts a little lower than I wanted but my welding trailer is at the right height.

I already like it a lot more than my 6x4 diesel I traded in.

We need pics of that cab Jesse!

Is the bed lift pretty stout? I'm really wantin one of those.

I know what you mean about the low hitch height. I picked up a couple pieces of tubing the same size and welded another receiver right above the factory one. Here's a pic.

That's an excellent idea on the hitch. I think that's what I'll do!

Bed lift is real stout. The HPX bed is easier to lift manually than the standard Gators, but if you ever need to dump a load you gotta have a lift!
