I've always thought the HPX should have taillights. Most of the other UTV's have them and I know Deere offers them as an additonal option. But, I decided to install the lights myself.

I picked up 2 small LED lights at a local AutoZone and installed them below the tailgate. The LED's are durable and can withstand the vibration and hard work this machine will see.

I wired them in with the headlights so they come on when you hit the switch. These little guys consume very little electrical power and are really bright!

Here's a pic of them in daylight, turned off.

Funny you should post this thread. I have been mulling around the idea of putting tail lights on my 6X4 Gator recently. In the last 2 weeks I have added a horn and a 12 volt outlet. The horn is great for getting the dogs and kids out of the way. The wife wondered what I would use the outlet for and the other day I had a 16ft utility trailer with low tires. I drove the Gator out there and plug in my little 12v air compressor and filled the up. How much did the LED lights cost?

In all the years I owned 6X4 Gators, I never thought about tail lights or a horn. After I bought an RTV that have both standard, I think they are a really good idea. Does the HPX still retain the Yanmar diesel? I pulled a 1200 pound cultipacker with a diesel 6X4 Gator for hundreds of hours putting in lawns. If you know what a culti packer is, you also know that it does not pull at all like a 1200 pound trailer. The Gator had such low ground pressure and was perfect for the job. I was amazed how steep of a hill that the little Yanmar would pull that heavy cultipacker up. Also, I never (really, never) had to replace the drive belt! It actually seemed less "jerky" starting off slowly after it wore some.

Brent,

They were right at 10 bucks each so I only have $20 in the outfit. They are made by Blazer and are labeled as "running board lights"

Plan on installing a ground strap from the bed to the frame otherwise the ground is intermittent. On my HPX, there was a pink wire looped out of the wire bundle under the hood that I tapped into. They evidently leave it looped out for adding the tail lights later so it made it easy.

I like the horn idea, it's next on the list. It'll be good for callin the cows!!

Dargo,

The HPX still has a Yanmar diesel bit it's a different engine (20hp) than the 6x4 (18hp).

I can certainly say, it's much stronger than the Kawasaki gas engine in my previous HPX. Both are 20hp and the specs indicate that the diesel only has one foot pound more of torque, but the torque is down low where it's needed.

It felt kinda doggy initially. I removed the spark arrestor (which is very restrictive) and it really pepped it up. Plus it's beginning to break in now and runs really smooth and quiet.

I can't stay off the **** thing!

On the horn, I got a horn from a Yanmar tractor, a push button switch from Wal Mart and then spliced it in to the hot wire on the back side of the ignition switch. There were already some holes in the frame work under the hood, so the horn bolted right on.
