HST as parking brake?

/ HST as parking brake? #21
I rarely use the parking brake on my 4210 when getting off unless I am on a slope...I prefer to shut the engine off rather than use the brake while on a flat surface. If on a grade, I will shut it off, apply the parking brake, and lower the FEL bucket or RB, or both implements together. Many times I would find it easier to climb back on the tractor from the right side, but with no step and the loader joystick in the way, I always walk around to the left side instead.

The HST will pretty well hold my JD on a mild slope while the engine is running but as others point out, it only takes a second to apply the parking brake, and that is a small investment in time that could pay big dividends. Back about 1991 I had parked my old JD 318 on the slope to my big barn, there was a yard trailer full of firewood hitched to the back, and I thought the hydro would keep them in place while I got off to open the barn doors and drive in....

Too bad TBN wasn't around back then as I would have had a REALLY interesting story to relate to you guys...
