hst cruise control works/doesn't work

The real value of this thread lies in the troubleshooting suggestions. Poor or no troubleshooting leads to needless parts cost. The most expensive parts are the unneeded ones. My suggestion that the magnet may be at fault here is the result of the experiences of myself and the guys I work with. If I had to travel to troubleshoot this problem, I would not leave without a magnet in hand. Power relay failure in TC's is virtually unheard of. Without getting our hands on the tractor in question as I said in a previous post, it is all speculation.

RickB, I have tremendous respect for you and your knowledge of these tractors. I don't really even want to disagree with you on this, but I believe your persective as a dealer's tech and me as an owner is the real difference in our opinions. I think your approach or mine would be to thoroughly troubleshoot the problem and replace only the failing component.

When I go into a dealer and buy parts, I know that electrical parts are often not returnable after they have been installed. I'm stuck with them. However, if you as a tech install an electrical part and it does not solve the problem, then I believe you can remove it and put the original part back into the system. In the case of the relay, there are 5 other identical relays in the same group on an HST tractor. What I would do is to swap a couple of relays and see if the problem went away. I would not have to buy a new relay to eliminate it as the possible problem.

I think there is a good chance that nothing is wrong with bluecrop's tractor except the adjustment of the brake pedal switch or the magnet out of adjustment. I doubt the fender switch is the problem because mine has been exposed to the weather for 7 years and has never failed.

You are absolutely right that we are both speculating about this. I think there is a good chance that I can be wrong, especially when guessing. What I don't want is for anyone to spend money on any part because of something I have said when I'm "playing" a guessing game. :)

Exactly!
