Traction HST fan replace

There are plenty of posts about that subject here! Broken fans. Some guys apparently had luck cutting the fan in half and bolting it on... I wouldn't do it. One fellow with a 2305 claimed to have been able to actually drop the driveshaft from underneath the machine. I have a 2210 with almost 800 hours now. The driveshaft bearings pooped completely last year with nothing left of the beaings but red dust, if you haven't done anything with the driveshaft yet this is the perfect time and replace the fan too! I don't know if it's possible to drop the driveshaft from underneath, didn't even try. What I did do was remove all levers, ROPS, seat, rear fenders, floor, and console to access the front driveshaft yoke where you have a helluva good time taking off a large C - clip to access a roll pin to release the shaft and slide it back towards the tranny and drop the shaft. It's an all day project. :banghead:

Just had my fan replaced by the dealer. I am not home now to look up the receipt but I think it was around $650.

I don't know why they don't use an oil cooler near the radiator like my X748 does. I would think the 'real' tractors would do that. The little kubota's use the fan too. They are both a nighmare to change. I just don't get why they use a fan that is so inaccesable.

IIRC - someone on ebay occasionally makes and sells skid plates to keep it from happening again. But I also think somone posted pics of the skids they made themselves..

Hi Bones,

Replace the fan by going under the floor board. Much easier than cracking the tractor to do it. While you just replaced the shaft bearings, I would get another one and disassemble the rear bearing and then replace the fan. Then replace the bearing back in the rear shaft and you will be on your way.

On snow blower,which way does one put the long drive shaft as far as slip joint goes. First time this year and just guessed at it. Phased itO.K. And no vibration and machine did a great job. Head south when snow hits!!!
