Hello Everyone,

How do you adjust the Hydrostatic foot pedal on a CK35?

Here is the issue, when I press on the pedal to go backward there is very little pedal travel as a result the tractor moves, but very slowly backward. There is lots of forward travel. Something needs to be adjusted, but I'm not sure where to begin.

When I was looking this over, I noticed the pedal when setting in the neutral position the reverse side of the pedal is setting up about a 1-1-1/4 off of the floor board. The front or forward is much much higher. I think it may be time to buy a shop manual.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd imagine the shop manual would cover that. You might check with a dealer to make sure (and maybe they could just tell you). There haven't been any issues like that that I can recall with the CKs but you might also try searching on TBN.

There is a chance that the treddle is bent. This has happened to me and at least one other owner. The treddle is made of a soft metal and can be bent during normal operations if debris gets on the platform near the pivot.

Or, you run into a beehive and decide you want to go in reverse NOW and apply too much pedal pressure.

There is also an adjustment on the linkage for the treddle.

In all cases, the machine will be slower in reverse than in forward in each gear but not too much slower.

Thanks Highbeam,
After thinking about it, I did have a few occasions where I hit the reverse a little hard to avoid hitting a tree or something. Now I wonder if I did bend it? I wish I could use the breaks to help steer the tractor. It's a little awkward keeping the HST rocker pedal forward and using the breaks when navigating through tight spots in the woods while Brush cutting. Anyway, I really didn't see much by the way of adjusting pedal travel.

Thanks!

As I recall, the pedal doesn't bottom out on the platform, it is supposed to bottom out somewhere else. So when you roll the treddle all the way forward you shoul dbe able to measure a distance between the treddle and the platform. Then roll the treddle rearward and look for the same distance. If you have no gap then you need to rebend the treddle.

In all the cases I have heard of this, the rear of the treddle gets flattened to the platform which limits rearward speed.

You'll be amazed at jsut how fast it can go backwards.

I've never needed the steering brakes since in 2wd the machine turns pretty sharp to get around trees. You would have to engage cruise control to use the steering brakes on our machine. I wonder why they don't put the brakes with the clutch on the left side. My left foot gets awfully bored over there.

Hey Highbeam

I looked at the pedal this weekend. You where right on, the pedal was bent. I bent it back and tested the travel until i felt it was were it should be. I'm going to have new one made out of heaver metal.
Thanks again

I have had to rebend my CK30hst pedal twice after I noticed the tractor slowing down in reverse. Probably time to also make a heavier one.
That was a nice call Highbeam.

Hey it happened to me too. That's what this forum is for and I'm glad I could help. In my case, the crazy dealer mechanic noticed it and bent it back while I watched with my mouth open. This dealer has done some questionable things so I had my doubts but it all worked out and reverse was much faster.
