6yr old MX4700 HST, inside kept.
Starting to have issues with the HST pedal safety switch. Sometimes the tractor will die when I get out of the seat and at times it won't turn over to start without jiggling the HST pedal. I haven't taken a serious look at it yet, but will I have any luck trying to adjust the pedal return/switch activation, or am I probably just looking at a new switch. Curious to any others experience.

Thanks

Go under the floorboard and lube all the linkages (e.g. Fluid Film). I think you will find one rod passes through the center housing and out to the left side. On this side is a threaded adjustment rod for centering the pedal in "neutral" at rest. Lube well as a first step.

Also, near that adjustment rod is an electrical connector that goes up to the safety switch in the seat. If you unplug that connector, all the safeties will be disabled. This will make you tractor not care if you are in the seat or not nor if the HST pedal is in the neutral position. This will quickly solve your kill-switch problem but may also make you more likely to kill yourself.

What he said. Spraying the pedal linkage and the rod liberally with Fluid Film takes care of the problem in most cases.

OK, simple things first. Got it! Will attempt that before using today. Thanks all

One hint: you may be tempted to use WD40 or something. Don't. It doesn't usually work and it certainly won't hold up like Fluid Film.

I was have a problem of a sticky HST pedal.... Grease and Fluid Film; just like new now (maybe even better). For mine, 3 grease zerks.

I played with it a lot this morning. Whenever it would happen (die when getting off) I would check the pedal and it really appeared to be centered. Lubing the linkages didn't seem to help. I adjusted the switch plunger in a half turn and couldn't get the tractor to turn over with any amount of 'wiggling'. I readjusted a half turn out from the original setting and had no problem the rest of the morning. If I stand up and 'touch' the pedal the tractor still dies immediately as it should. Happy for now. Of course maybe it just took a bit for the lube to work in. I was using SuperLube Multipurpose Synthetic Lubricant. Seems to dry without attracting to much dust.
Thanks all.

Can anyone give me a quick overview of what the different BX2230 safety switches do? I have a problem with mine that I can start it just fine in neutral, but when I put it in gear, it kills. It's intermittent, and sometimes I can get it to go by fiddling with the pedal (centering it?), then putting into gear. Then, I touch the pedal, and it dies. Or, it'll go forward or backward for a bit, then die. I can sometimes "save" it when it's trying to die if I shift into neutral real quick when it starts to die. I thought it might be a seat switch, but I checked that with an ohm meter, and seems to be good. Maybe I should temporarily bypass the seat switch?

Yours is a seat switch issue.
If you move the tractor without being seated, the machine will cut off.

If you are seated and it dies when you move the tractor, you have an issue with the seat switch or something is preventing the seat switch from closing.

Ok, I'll bypass the seat switch for a test and see if she behaves. Thanks!
