I have to tell you that I do not want to be a farmer _because_ I have an idea of what it takes. "Real" farming is in my family in several places, some of them farms for centuries. (We have that here in the East) But there's no more centuries left where those came from.

I think it is the heat in the cab thats the problem! I've never seen them need more then a few minutes to warm up even when it's like 20 degree's below like here this past week.

I guess you are sort of right. My personal fluids have to be kept warm so the tractor isn't warmed up until the inside cab thermometer reads at least 65 degrees. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

cowboydoc et al:

As a couple of other posters have mentioned, the issue of "real" farmers is really a bit off topic in a thread on HST vs geared trans. However, your posts, and some others, have been most interesting and worthy of discussion.

So . . . I reproduced part of your post and made a couple comments (to continue the topic) and started a new thread titled "real" farmers in the Related Topics forum. So if anyone is interested the subject could be continued there.

JEH,
Well the origional posters question was off topic about why don't larger tractors have HST ? This puts the whole thread off topic for CUT's.

I got a price for a new Kubota M6800 4WD with hydraulic shuttle shift and a loader for $30,400 + tax.

A woods 4 in 1 bucket will add about $1,800 more.

Does this seem high? I can get a bigger Zetor with a cab and bigger loader for about the same money.

I don't lnow if the price is fair, but if you get a Meteor or whatever, you will be banished from the Kubota Forum. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I don't see the problem with the price of a Kubota being more then a Zetor. I don't think that price is to bad.

Keep that up and you will have to change your site name to something else. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just 'cause the guy lives in Wisconsin (cheese head) and then claims he is a yooper (upper peninsula, Michigan), doesn't make him all bad. At least I don't think it does.

To set the record straight, I am only 1/2 yooper (my front half) /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.
